Need a Change? Change Your Mind First.

Einstein once said the sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. I remind myself of this bit of wisdom every time I experience frustration. It is easy to complain to myself. I can vent for a while until I grow tired of it. Eventually I realize I wasted my time when I could have been doing something else. To prevent history from repeating itself, doing something different is the ideal.
Wanting something different is good. Change is a necessary part of life. We look forward to change and sometimes we fear change. Whenever we are dissatisfied with something or see an unmet need, we desire change. To make that change more fulfilling and successful, the mind has to change along with it. The mind has to give up something in order to allow for successful change.
Acceptance of change is not always easy, even when the change is welcomed. Graduations, job promotions, and marriages are wonderful events that require new responsibilities, behaviors, schedules, attitudes, etc. Someone who can transition through these changes with eagerness and persistence will experience lasting fulfillment.
“Easier said than done,” becomes a standard mantra when someone is not accustomed to pushing themselves through unfamiliar transformations. Saying good-bye to the old to make room for the new can be difficult. Even when old habits have “worn our their welcome,” it is awkward to change because the old has become comfortable.
A support network is an attractive approach. Teaming up with others who encounter similar circumstances reduces isolation. A group effort is a big morale boost for everyone involved. As humans we were never meant to go through things alone. When you want to help yourself and others, assemble a group that will help each member grow.
